Visions from Void is the collaborated work of Robert Zozaya and Lorainn Karnes. Here are their individual artist's statements.
Lorainn Karnes shumanitu wakan winyan: From a very young age, I have recognized my connection to our Earth, Maka ina and all creatures upon her through the teachings of my people, the Onandawaga, as well as my relations, the Sioux. The Lakota words 'mitakuye oyasin' are translated best in the western world: 'We are ALL related'. From this, I am compelled to create. In a variety of mediums, Spirit inspires me to speak of the Void, the Great Mystery. To bring clarity to that which may be unseen by some, misunderstood by others.
Incorporating the medicines shared by the four-leggeds, the winged ones, the crawlers, the rock and the standing people, I relay upon feather, bone, wood, or wherever I'm pulled, a bit of their wisdom for all to understand, to listen and remember. I place good prayers/intentions in each piece that is created so that the one it calls to is awakened to the Beauty within all things, to the teachings inspired. To guide others to Walk in Beauty.

Robert Zozaya: As far back as
I can remember nature's beauty, quirkiness and my connection
to it has always fascinated and mesmerized me. The origin of
my creations come from this connectedness to nature. My art
is a blending of the extension of my senses and the
potential that surrounds each and every one of us...the
black shadows as well as the brilliant light. I create to
satisfy my inner need, a kind of meditative endeavor. I want
my work to produce some sort of energetic response from
those who view it. Whether it be a stirring of ones spirit,
a physiological response: tightening of the scalp or an
increase in heart rhythm, or the triggering of a memory.
Whatever the response is, be it good or bad, I hope it's
anything but indifference.
